The British Retail Consortium said Britain's like-for-lie sales rose 0.9 percent annually in July.
That was in line of expectations but eased from the previous month's 1.2 percent.
UK's overall retail sales increased an annual 1.4 percent.
Food sales rose 2.3 percent while non-food sales lost 0.7 percent.
BRC Chief Executive Helen Dickinson said food sales are expected to drive sales growth for the time being.
