Italy's unemployment rate increased in September, figures from the statistical office Istat showed Wednesday.
The jobless rate rose to 10.1 percent from 9.8 percent in the previous month. The expected rate was 9.9 percent. In the same period last year, the unemployment rate was 11.2 percent.
The number of employed increased by 207,000 from previous year as job creation rose sharply among people aged over 50. At the same time, unemployment decreased by 288,000 from last year.
The jobless rate among youth aged between 15 and 24, climbed to 31.6 percent in September from 31.3 percent in August.
