EU antitrust regulators slapped Google with a €2.42 billion ($2.14 billion) fine for exploiting its dominance of the search engine in establishing its online shopping service.
The bloc's leading antitrust official Margrethe Vestager said Tuesday the US technology company denied its consumers a genuine option and counterparts the capability to compete on an equal footing and to become inventive. The firm has until 90 days to halt its illicit activities or grapple with more fines.
A Google spokesperson mentioned the company works on showing advertisements benefiting both buyers and sellers. The spokesperson added they will review the decision thoroughly as they consider making an appeal.
