Bitcoin surged back above $10, 000 on Monday amid widespread gains in the digital asset market.

The biggest cryptocurrency by market value rose in late morning trading to near $10, 3000. The increase marked a gain of over $900 or 10 percent over 24 hours on Coinbase, the biggest U.S. marketplace for major digital currencies.; Bitcoin was last trading off those highs close to $10, 175.

There is no clear reason for the recent rally. Other major cryptocurrencies traded marginally higher, with ethereum rising around 4 percent close to $863 on Coinbase.

Around the time of the increase, cross-border currency exchange Circle announced that it is procuring Poloniex, a leading digital currency trading platform. Online statements by both firms regarding the news did not disclose the acquisition price. According to CryptoCompare, Poloniex has the seventh-biggest market share of U.S. dollar- bitcoin trading volume.

Demand from Japanese investors was slightly greater than it has been recently according to data from CryptoCompare. The website revealed bitcoin trading in Japanese yen represented around 51 percent of the total volume, while U.S. dollar trading volume accounted for around 22 percent.
